What I do

Jennie approaches collaboration in a straightforward and productive fashion, and encourages participation and action together with a truly global audience.

I can help your organization with…

  • Growth. Read my piece on how I grew Creative Commons’s email list from 30,000 to 100,000 in a few months.

  • Email marketing, fundraising, and campaigning. I’ve designed campaigns for sales, community, and fundraising for a variety of organizations including Creative Commons, Mozilla, Harvard University, and O’Reilly Media/Safari.

  • Content writing and editing. I have been published in both the popular press and peer reviewed publications. As an editorial consultant at MIT CoLab, I work on a ten book academic series on racial justice in collaboration with the SEIU.

  • Web development. I have experience in both content and development for the web on a variety of platforms including Wordpress. I can write in HTML/CSS and Javascript and have completed courses in PHP and Python.

  • Data-driven outcomes. I use data and analytics to help drive decision making. I sort through the noise to get to outcomes that matter.

  • Organizational Storytelling. Explore “State of the Commons,” the community driven annual report I wrote for Creative Commons.

  • Facilitation. I am a trained facilitator in group process, nonviolent communication, and anti-oppressive workflows. I am a lead facilitator for my Cohousing community and can offer “facilitation magic” in both digital and physical space.

  • Strategy. I have provided strategic guidance within organizations, volunteer groups, and nonprofits. I am experienced in process and product, driving organizations toward measurable outcomes and goals.

  • Community Management. I have been a primary organizer of several large online communities and worked on Codes of Conduct for large online spaces on Slack, Discourse, IRC, and other platforms. I have also been responsible for in person community management at 500+ person events, engaged in company culture audits, and co-founded volunteer organizations in the Boston area.

  • Events Management. I have conceived of, advertised, and organized events of all sizes, ranging from 100 person lectures at Harvard to 500 person Global Summit.

  • Design thinking and research. I have organized UX and research efforts and led design sprints, as well as presented on User Experience Research and design mindset for non designers.

  • Public speaking and thought leadership. I am an experienced public speaker and have delivered keynotes, presentations, and lectures of all types. My work in public has brought me into contact with thousands of librarians, public servants, open source savants, and others. See my online presentation for the Library Revolution Conference on Commons thinking in librarianship.

  • Service and Community Engagement. I am a movement builder, a radical thinker, and a mover and shaker in all my work. I connect, inspire, and motivate for community change.

I personally appreciated Jennie’s sense of humor, curiosity, and deep background in library science and developer relations. She’d be an asset to any organization looking to foster a healthy and active customer community.
